The city of Playa del Carmen, known as the heart of the Riviera Maya, is a strategic base for those who want to discover, tour, and explore the area. Since it’s located 70 km from Cancún, 59 km from Tulum, and just a 40-minute ferry ride from Cozumel, you don’t need to change hotels to visit these places.

Beaches and Water Activities

Playa del Carmen Beach is renowned as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. You can walk for hours or enjoy activities such as jet skiing, parasailing, stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, catamaran sailing, fishing, scuba diving, or snorkeling.

The LunaSol Hotel has partnerships with several beach clubs where guests can use lounge chairs at no cost (normally $10 per person). These clubs only require a minimum purchase of $10 per person. Chichen Itzá

Cobá

The impressive site of Cobá (“chachalaca water”) is home to the tallest temple on the Yucatán Peninsula and the oldest network of stone roads in the Mayan world. Here you’ll also find stelae with historical inscriptions. It’s one of the few sites where you can still climb the pyramids. It’s 108 km from the hotel.

Tulum

Formerly known as Zamá (“dawn” in Maya) and now called Tulum (“Maya wall”), it is the only archaeological site located right on the beach. It offers a postcard-perfect view. It is located 59 km from the LunaSol Hotel.

Ek Balam

The beautiful acropolis of Ek Balam (“Black Jaguar”) is located in the northern part of the Yucatán Peninsula, on the way to Río Lagartos, 300 km from the hotel. Its ancient walls, Mayan arch, ceremonial center, and ball court make it a spectacular archaeological site.

You’ll question reality when you visit El Pueblo, where you won’t know if you’re going up or down, if the top is the bottom or the bottom is the top. Expand your perception at Xenses. It’s located 7 km from the LunaSol Hotel.

Xel-Há: Discover a place to connect with nature. Dare to slide down the Faro Mirador slide. If you get hungry during your adventure, you can enjoy a meal at one of the restaurants in this all-inclusive park. Put on your life jacket, fins, and snorkel—the lagoon’s marine life awaits you at Xel-Há, the place where water was born. Xel-Há is located 47 km from the LunaSol Hotel.

Jungala: An exclusive water park you've always dreamed of. With concierge service, a tropical setting, private cabanas, and the world's best water attractions, Jungala has it all—without the long lines or crowds of a traditional park. Jungala is located 22 km from the LunaSol Hotel.

Cirque du Soleil – “La Joya”: An artistic production by Cirque du Soleil. It follows the adventures of a rebellious young girl trapped in a mysterious jungle in her grandfather’s fantasy world. Surrounded by strange, semi-human characters inspired by Mayan iconography, the elderly naturalist attempts to teach his granddaughter about his tireless search for the meaning of life.
